The Cabinet Office is seeking to establish a clearly identified marketplace, where users/customers of its Best Practice guidance can be assured that they are investing in quality products and services.
To support this, the Cabinet Office has developed a policy on the use of its trade marks including, logos and endorsement marks. This includes the provision of an authorised route for suppliers, where they can have their products endorsed, potentially enhancing their value in the marketplace.
APMG has been granted delegated authority by the Cabinet Office to issue licences for the re-use of the Cabinet Office's trade marks and the Crown copyright in the publications relating to them. This means that they issue licences to Accredited Organisations for them to use the Cabinet Office's IP within their training materials and related marketing activities. APMG also license non-accredited organisations and individuals who wish to re-use the Cabinet Office's intellectual property within their products and services.
The Cabinet Office word marks (Best Management Practice product names, e.g M_o_R) can be used without a licence in free text or in a descriptive manner by any organisation/individual as long as the correct symbology and acknowledgement statement accompanies the mark.
On the first use of any the Cabinet Office product word mark the correct symbol (which is the ® or ™ symbol) must be used. The correct acknowledgment statement must feature alongside the first use of a product word mark on the same page or in a logical position within that document. On any subsequent use of the product word mark within that document, neither the symbol nor the statement is required.
In the case of websites, a Cabinet Office word mark can only be used as a hyperlink to other web pages containing further information about that specific product. The word mark can be used on these pages freely. The correct symbol must be shown alongside the first occurrence of any Cabinet Office word mark within each webpage on which it appears. The acknowledgement statement may be shown either on each page or be referenced on an acknowledgements/ copyright page, accessible via a link on each webpage where the word mark appears.
Where a Cabinet Office word mark is incorporated into the title/name of a product a Trade Mark licence must be obtained through the Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licensing Scheme from APM Group.
The content of the official Cabinet Office publications (text and diagrams), as published by The Stationery Office (TSO), is protected by Crown copyright, and is owned by the Cabinet Office. This means that if you wish to reproduce any of the content of the Cabinet Office's official publications, and/or use any of the Cabinet Office's product Trade Marks, you will need to seek prior permission, and if necessary apply for a licence from APM Group.
EIs and ATOs are granted a license to reproduce Crown Copyright material in their training and marketing materials as part of the accreditation process. Individuals/organisations are also able to use Crown Copyright but must apply for a licence in order to do so. Please refer to our Trade Mark (and Copyright) Licensing Scheme page for more information about making use of the Cabinet Office Crown Copyright Material.
Copyright needs to be acknowledged appropriately by the relevant license holder and guidance pertaining to this will be provided during the licensing process.
