Trademark Licensing

Introduction

APMG has been granted delegated authority on behalf of OGC to issue licences for the re-use of OGC's Trade marks (PRINCE2®, MSP™, M_o_R®, ITIL®, IT Infrastructure Library®, P3O®, P3M3™) within their products and/or services. Applicants can also apply to APMG for a licence to re-use content from OGC official PPM publications published by OGC's official publisher, The Stationery Office (TSO) in addition to use of the respective trademark.

Applicants who wish to reproduce content from any of OGC's publications without use of trademark should apply to the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) for a Click-use License.

Overview of the APMG Licensing Process

APMG can issue Licences for a range of products, including books and software tools. APMG will also consider applications for articles not intended for sale, such as corporate brochures or other corporate or non-corporate services.

Applicants first submit an application form to APMG together with a copy of their intended product or service. All products submitted to APMG for licensing are subject to assessment by a qualified assessor in order to verify the technical quality and correctness of the material as well as alignment with the principles of OGC best practice guidance. For certain products, such as software tools, an assessor can work together with you in order to help you to develop a demo into a final product. Once all parties are happy with the outcome of the assessment and the resolution of the issues arising from the assessment, then the licence can be granted.

Fees are charged in accordance with the APMG Charging Framework depending on the amount of Crown copyright material re-used and the context in which the material is used.

Trade Mark Licensing Scheme

As part of the trade mark licence scheme applicants whose' products are covered by a valid trade mark license may apply to have their products endorsed; suitable products will be entitled to display the appropriate endorsement mark, examples of which are displayed below:

 PRINCE2 endorsement mark

The PRINCE2 endorsement logo ™ is a Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce

 ITIL endorsement mark

The ITIL endorsement logo ™ is a Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce

The Trade Mark Licensing Scheme allows suppliers to bring their products and services to the marketplace, clearly identified for quality assurance. Suppliers will benefit from using a recognised endorsement mark and product trade mark (i.e. the product name, such as PRINCE2) in both the content and title of the product or service. These products and services will also benefit from an OGC/TSO/APMG marketing campaign to encourage customers to look for the quality marks.

The Stationery Office (TSO)

As an alternative to the Trade Mark Licensing Scheme, publishers and authors may wish to submit proposals for new publications to TSO (OGC's official publisher).
OGC's Best Practice guidance publications are published by TSO and benefit from branding, a rigorous quality control process, management of intellectual property rights, a global marketing strategy and strong sales support and links with key stakeholders in industry. The publications fall into two categories:

  1. The Core portfolio – manuals that outline the key principles, frameworks and methodologies that form the guidance itself.
  2. The Complementary portfolio – publications that support the use of the core guidance.

TSO will consider ideas and manuscripts for new titles, both in the Core and the Complementary portfolio. For more information, please contact them at: OGC@tso.co.uk
