  • What is M_o_R?

    A certain amount of risk taking is inevitable if your organisation is to achieve its objectives.
    Effective management of risk helps you to improve performance. Management of risk is critical to organisational success. Informed risk-taking helps to improve performance through innovative approaches for managing the business, service delivery and value for money. Thus we need to improve the implementation of risk management practices.

  • Where can I train for the M_o_R exams?

    Training for M_o_R is available from accredited training organisations coordinated through the APM Group. The exams can be taken with your chosen training organisation as part of your training course, or directly through the APM Group who have an open centre in Milton Keynes or London where you can take the exams without needing to do the training course.

  • How do I go about taking the M_o_R Examinations via an ATO (Accredited Training Organisation)?

    You will need to contact the individual organisations for details of fees and formats. APMG does not hold information on the ATOs individual courses but we ensure the training provided by the ATOs meet APMG's required standards in accordance with EN45011.

  • How can I take M_o_R Examinations outside the UK?

    For candidates outside the UK we use the British Council to hold the exams for us on an ad-hoc basis. Exams (but not training courses) are available in many countries through the British Council. Please visit the following link for information on whether they offer exams in your area.

  • What is the structure of the M_o_R exam?

    Foundation Exam: A multiple-choice paper containing 45 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. This is a closed-book examination.

    Practitioner OTE exam: This Practitioner examination is an objective marking style, open book paper. The paper will consist of 9 questions with a scenario background and is 3 hours long (including reading time). The exam paper has a total of 180 marks available and candidates need to achieve a mark of 90+ to pass the paper.

    M_o_R Re-Registration Examination

    Since 1 January 2008, a Re-registration exam for M_o_R has been available.

    All M_o_R Practitioners should be re-registered within 3-5 years of their original certification. This Re-registration comprises a 1.5-hour examination. All Practitioners who have taken the examination have agreed to this requirement as part of their initial application and so are now designated as Registered Practitioners.

    All Practitioners certified have the opportunity to take the Re-registration examination in order to demonstrate their commitment to professional development. This is particularly important following the recent upgrading of the M_o_R Manual.

    By taking the Re-registration examinations, candidates are able to demonstrate to Employers and prospective Employers the recency of their knowledge and commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

    The format of the Practitioner Re-registration exam is:

    • 75 minutes with 15 minutes pre-reading time
    • Open book
    • Contains two sections
    • Section "A" must be attempted and represents 15 out of 40 marks
    • Section "B" contains 2 questions - 1 must be attempted. A total of 25 marks are available for section B
    • A total score of 20 out of 40 is required to pass.

  • M_o_R Re-registration Examination

    Since 1st January 2008, a Re-registration exam for M_o_R has been available.

    Until the 31 May 2009 there will be 2 available formats of the M_o_R Re-registration examination paper – essay and OTE format. From 1 June 2009, only the OTE format will be available.

    The format of the Essay Practitioner Re-registration exam is:

    • 75 minutes plus 15 minutes pre reading time
    • Open book
    • Contains 2 sections
    • Section "A" must be attempted and represents 15 out of 40 marks
    • Section "B" contains 2 questions - 1 must be attempted. A total of 25 marks are available for section B
    • A total score of 20 out of 40 is required to pass.

    The format of the OTE Practitioner Re-registration exam is:

    • 80 minutes including reading time
    • Open book – candidates may make use of the Management of Risk: Guidance for Practitioners (the Management of Risk 'guide') published by TSO, together with the APMG guidance document ABC Consulting Ltd. Sample Risk Documents and Worked Examples of some of the Common Techniques. No other material other than the Question Booklet, the Scenario Booklet and the Answer Booklet can be used.
    • Contains 4 questions (each worth 20 marks)
    • A total score of 40 out of 80 is required to pass.

  • Which book do I need to purchase and where can I buy the book?

    OGC has developed a best practice guide on Risk Management called "Management of Risk: Guidance for Practitioners 2007 Edition" which is published by The Stationery Office. The book can be purchased online through the Best Management Practice Portfolio Library at www.best-management-practice.com/Portfolio-Library/.

  • How long will it take to learn the M_o_R material?

    Unfortunately it is difficult to say. As all candidates have different experience and amount of time on their hands, it varies from person to person. We suggest you buy the manual and have a look through for yourself before deciding how long you need to spend learning.

  • Result Turn Around for M_o_R Examinations

    Result turn-around time for the Practitioner exam is roughly 4-6 weeks. APMG will send out confirmation of your Foundation exam result within a week. If you have taken your exam via an Accredited Training Organisation (ATO), results are sent by APMG to that particular ATO. It is the ATO's responsibility to notify you of your result. If you sat the Foundation and Practitioner exam in the same week, your results will not show on the Successful Candidate Register until two weeks after the results for the Practitioner exam have been released. Certificate turn-around is usually two weeks after you have been notified of your result.

  • Pass marks for the M_o_R Examinations

    Foundation Examination: You will need to score 23 out of 45 to pass the Foundation Examination.

    Practitioner Essay Examination: You will need to score 50 out of 100 to pass the Practitioner Examination.

    Practitioner OTE Examination:You will need to score 90 out of 180 to pass the Practitioner Examination.

  • When will I receive my M_o_R certificate?

    A Foundation Certificate will be dispatched to you approximately 2 weeks after we have received your exam paper back into our offices if you only took the Foundation exam.

    A Practitioner Certificate will be dispatched 2 weeks after the Practitioner results have been released.

    Please note that if you have taken your examinations via an ATO; the certificates will be dispatched to the ATO. Therefore if you have not received your certificate in the above time frames please contact the ATO directly who can contact the APM Group on your behalf for a replacement.
